Is WARDOGS coming to PS5 and Xbox?

Published Updated Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

Yes, in 2028. Bulkhead attached a year to the console versions for the first time on 10 September 2026, the morning WARDOGS launched: "coming to consoles in 2028". PlayStation and Xbox are both covered by that line. There is no month, no quarter and no word on whether the two arrive together.

The Xbox Store page is already up. When we checked on 23 September 2026, Microsoft's store listed WARDOGS for Xbox Series X|S, published by Team17, with no price, no release date and no pre-order button. It carries the store's"Xbox cross-platform multiplayer"tag, which is Microsoft's label rather than a Bulkhead statement.See the listing ↗

That date lands where Early Access ends. Bulkhead expects to spend 12 to 24 months in Early Access before the $59.99 1.0 release, which puts 1.0 around September 2028 — so consoles are being pointed at the year the PC version stops being unfinished, rather than at some point during the Early Access run. That reading is ours; Bulkhead has tied the two together nowhere.

Xbox and PlayStation in 2028

Bulkhead, on launch day: "COMING TO CONSOLES IN 2028." The March 2026 position was a plan with no window — "we just don't know when" — and this is the first year attached to it. No month, no quarter, and no split between the two platforms.

Not announced

Bulkhead has stated no policy. The Xbox Store listing (up by 23 September 2026) carries Microsoft's "Xbox cross-platform multiplayer" capability tag, which is a store label rather than a studio statement, and does not say which platforms it covers. Consoles are dated 2028.

Controller supportConfirmed

Partial gamepad support at Early Access launch, with limited aim assist

Answered on 11 August 2026 after months of silence. Bulkhead: "there will be partial gamepad support at Early Access launch", "keyboard and mouse will always be the optimal way to experience War Dogs on PC", and on aim assist, "This will exist, but only to a small degree as playing without it is honestly just comically bad." Still not listed in Steam's controller categories.

Is WARDOGS coming to Xbox and PS5?

Yes, in 2028. Bulkhead put the year in writing on the morning of launch, 10 September 2026: "coming to consoles in 2028", in the same post announcing that Early Access was going live that day.

That closes a question the studio had left open for six months. Asked about consoles on camera in its March 2026 "Answering Your Questions" update, Bulkhead said:

We absolutely want to come to Xbox and PlayStation. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about you guys. We're coming to console. That's our plan, we just don't know when.

What the 2028 line does and does not settle:

  • The year is now official. Not an outlet's expectation and not an inference from the Early Access window — the developer's own figure.
  • Nothing finer than a year exists. No month, no quarter, and no indication whether PlayStation and Xbox launch on the same day. Anyone quoting you a console date is still guessing.
  • The 2027 figure was wrong. It has circulated since a PlayStation Universe piece on 12 August 2026 attributed it to Bulkhead without quoting a statement. We could not find one, and carried it as Reported rather than repeating it as fact. The studio's own answer is a year later than that.

Two years is a long runway, and Bulkhead has form for moving these: this is a studio that declined to commit to Linux support for launch rather than promise it. Treat 2028 as the intention it is.

Does WARDOGS have crossplay?

Not announced by Bulkhead — and with one platform, there is nobody to cross-play with yet. The one new signal is the Xbox Store listing, which carries Microsoft's "Xbox cross-platform multiplayer" tag. We label that Reported: it is a store capability label, not a studio statement, and it does not say whether it means Steam players, Xbox PC players or neither. Crossplay, cross-progression and the mouse-versus-controller question have their own page, which is where the answer moves the day Bulkhead gives one.

Does WARDOGS have controller support?

Partially, on PC, from launch. The console plan makes controller support a question of when rather than whether, and Bulkhead answered it on 11 August 2026: there will be partial gamepad support at Early Access launch, with aim assist that exists "only to a small degree", and keyboard and mouse "will always be the optimal way to experience WARDOGS on PC". The game is still not listed in Steam's controller categories. What partial gamepad support means in practice → Which controller to buy for WARDOGS →

What would change this page

This page asked for a dated console announcement for five weeks and got one on 10 September 2026, so the year above is the studio's, and the Xbox Store listing followed by 23 September. What would move it again: a date or a price on that listing, a PlayStation Store listing, a month or a quarter inside 2028, a split between the two platforms, a crossplay statement from Bulkhead — or 2028 slipping, which two years of runway makes worth watching. Any of those changes a row above and the stamp at the top. For now the Steam page still lists Windows only, and that is the platform the Closed Beta ran on and the one Early Access opened on.
