WARDOGS local voice chat stops working

Published Updated Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

This one is not your machine

Usually an outage at the third-party voice provider rather than your microphone. Toggling mute twice from the scoreboard restores it.

What you see

Local or proximity voice chat drops out mid-match, or never connects. Sometimes accompanied by a communication error code. A separate version of this has the local or squad box appearing when you press to talk while nothing you say is picked up.

Also reported as: proximity chat not working · error code 1019 · error 5043 · local voip · mic not working · mic not picking up · voice chat not working · nobody can hear me

What to do instead

The cause is not on your machine, so reinstalling and verifying will not reach it. These are the things that actually help while it lasts.

  1. 01 Open the scoreboard and press U twice

    Confirmed

This toggles mute off and on again and re-establishes the connection. It is the workaround Bulkhead gave directly.

  2. 02 Turn voice chat off in settings, then back on

    Confirmed

The other half of the same official workaround, for when the scoreboard toggle does not take.

  3. 03 If the game sees your mic but hears nothing, disable your headset software's virtual input device

    Confirmed

The symptom is specific: the local or squad box appears when you press to talk, the in-game mic test works, the same microphone is fine in Discord, and nobody hears you. The cause is a virtual recording device — a headset app's "Chat Mix" or equivalent — sitting in front of the real one. Windows → Sound settings → Recording, disable the virtual device, select the physical microphone, restart the game. Team17 support endorsed this after a player found it: if it works with the virtual device off, leave it off.

  4. 04 Check Windows has given WARDOGS microphone access

    Reported

Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. Worth ruling out if you have never had voice working at all, as opposed to losing it mid-session.

Did this fix it for you?

Notes from other players who hit this code. Say what worked, what did not, and which region you are in — a fix that only works in one place is worth knowing about. Best-rated first, and there is no time limit: an answer from the first beta is still an answer.

No comments yet. Be the first to say whether this worked.

Voice runs through a third-party provider, and outages there take local chat down for everyone on the server at once. If nobody around you can hear anybody, that is what has happened and there is nothing to fix at your end.

Worth separating from the other complaint about comms in this game, which is a design gap rather than a fault: there is no command channel and no map-marking system, so coordinating beyond your immediate surroundings is genuinely difficult even when voice is working perfectly.
