PIP scopes

WARDOGS crashes one or two minutes into every match

Published Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

This one is on your machine

Turn picture-in-picture scopes off in Settings then Graphics. Team17 support gives this step for mid-match crashes and for crashes when aiming through an optic. It is a rendering fault rather than a stability problem with your machine, and it has not been shown to clear every case.

What you see

The menus are stable and the game launches fine, but you crash to desktop one or two minutes into every match, usually once fighting starts.

Also reported as: crash mid-match · picture in picture scope crash · crash when aiming down sights · crash when ADS · crash when scoping · scope crash

Fixes, in the order worth trying

Work top to bottom and stop when the game launches. Each step is labelled with how much evidence sits behind it, so you can skip the guesses if the first ones work.

  1. 01 Turn PIP scopes off in Settings → Graphics

    Confirmed

Picture-in-picture scopes render a second view through the optic. It is the single most-reported cause of a mid-match crash, and Team17 support posted the same step three times in September to players crashing during matches. Players who crash specifically when aiming through an optic rather than over iron sights start here too.

  2. 02 Update your GPU driver

    Reported

The crash is renderer-side, so a current driver is worth having before you decide the setting is the culprit.

Did this fix it for you?

Notes from other players who hit this code. Say what worked, what did not, and which region you are in — a fix that only works in one place is worth knowing about. Best-rated first, and there is no time limit: an answer from the first beta is still an answer.

No comments yet. Be the first to say whether this worked.

The timing is the tell. A crash that always arrives a minute or two in, and never in the menus or on the firing range, is pointing at something that only happens once you aim down a magnified optic in a real match.

Turning PIP scopes off costs you the true picture-in-picture view through high-magnification sights; the scope still works, it just renders the conventional way. That is a small price against crashing out of every round, and you can turn it back on after the next patch to see whether it has been fixed.

If the Crash Report Handler opens when it happens and cites fetched optional streams, that line is only the reporter describing itself — it does not say what actually crashed.
