WARDOGS: Anti-Cheat Login Failed, or EAC will not install

Published Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

This one is on your machine

Relaunch from Steam rather than from inside the game, and check nothing else on the machine or the network is blocking EAC.

What you see

A dialog reading "Anti-Cheat Login Failed", or Easy Anti-Cheat refusing to finish installing, either during setup or when the game tries to restart itself.

Also reported as: EAC won't install · anti-cheat login failed · EasyAntiCheat_EOS

Fixes, in the order worth trying

Work top to bottom and stop when the game launches. Each step is labelled with how much evidence sits behind it, so you can skip the guesses if the first ones work.

  1. 01 Relaunch from Steam, not from the in-game restart prompt

    Confirmed

The in-game restart skips the step that starts the anti-cheat service. This alone fixes a surprising share of reports.

  2. 02 Close any other anti-cheat running on the machine

    Confirmed

Third-party anti-cheats block EAC outright. Anti-Cheat Expert is the one named most often.

  3. 03 Delete the EasyAntiCheat folder in the install directory and verify files

    Reported

Also delete C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS, which the game does not clean up on its own.

  4. 04 Try a different network

    Reported

A restrictive or filtered connection blocks EAC. Parental controls, mature-content filtering on TP-Link Deco hardware, and locked-down work Wi-Fi have all been identified. A phone hotspot is the quickest way to test this.

  5. 05 Temporarily turn off your antivirus and reinstall EAC by hand

    Reported

Run EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe from steamapps\common\WARDOGS Playtest\EasyAntiCheat, then turn protection back on.

If you came here asking which anti-cheat WARDOGS uses, whether it is kernel-level, or whether it runs on Linux or a Steam Deck, that is a different page — this one is the fix for Easy Anti-Cheat refusing to install or log in on Windows. And if your launcher names Elytra rather than EAC, which the September build did, the Elytra page is the one you want. When the same failure surfaces as a Windows dialog citing 0xc0000142 the moment you press play, that is EAC failing to initialise rather than to install, and it has its own fix.

The network step is the one people skip and the one that catches the hardest cases. EAC has to reach its own servers to authenticate, and a filtered connection produces a failure that looks exactly like a broken install — so if the first three steps do nothing, test on a phone hotspot before you reinstall anything else.

If you refunded and removed the game, EAC does not always uninstall with it. Removing it by hand avoids a conflict if you install again later.
