INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE

WARDOGS blue-screening your whole PC

Published Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

This one is on your machine

Stop playing until this is resolved. Kernel-level crashes can corrupt Windows, and this one traces to a specific Windows update.

What you see

A full blue screen taking the entire machine down, citing INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE, rather than the game closing on its own.

Also reported as: invalid kernel handle · KB5121003

Fixes, in the order worth trying

Work top to bottom and stop when the game launches. Each step is labelled with how much evidence sits behind it, so you can skip the guesses if the first ones work.

  1. 01 Stop playing until you have dealt with it

    Confirmed

This is the one entry on the site that asks you to close the game rather than work around it. Repeated kernel crashes can damage the Windows install underneath.

  2. 02 Uninstall Windows update KB5121003

    Reported

Settings → Windows Update → Update history → Uninstall updates.

  3. 03 Get onto Windows 11 24H2

    Reported

25H2, the Insider channel and Windows 10 are all over-represented in these reports.

  4. 04 Run DISM and sfc /scannow after any full crash

    Confirmed

In an admin terminal, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then sfc /scannow, then reboot. Do this even once the crashing stops.

Did this fix it for you?

Notes from other players who hit this code. Say what worked, what did not, and which region you are in — a fix that only works in one place is worth knowing about. Best-rated first, and there is no time limit: an answer from the first beta is still an answer.

No comments yet. Be the first to say whether this worked.

A blue screen is a different class of problem from the rest of this section. Everything else here closes the game; this takes the operating system with it, and the risk is not to your session but to the Windows install.

The trigger appears to be an interaction between the update and a third-party driver rather than anything WARDOGS does wrong, which is why the same crash shows up under other titles on the same machines. That also means it will not be fixed by a game patch, and waiting for one is not a plan.

If the update refuses to uninstall, the last step still applies: repair the system files before you play anything demanding.
