Lost cash

WARDOGS lost my money after a crash or disconnect

Published Data as of Season 1 · 10 Sept 2026

This one is not your machine

Two different things. Leaving or losing a match part-way, crash or disconnect included, forfeits the cash earned in that match, and the kit you died with is gone, by design. But cash you had before the match disappearing, or a balance dropping when you log out and back in, is a bug. Team17 says it is investigating those reports; there is no restore process and no fix yet.

What you see

The game crashed, disconnected you or sent you back to the menu mid-match, and when you got back in your balance was far lower. Sometimes it is the match's earnings; sometimes it is most of what you had saved.

What to do instead

The cause is not on your machine, so reinstalling and verifying will not reach it. These are the things that actually help while it lasts.

  1. 01 Work out which loss you had

    Confirmed

Compare your balance with what you had when the match started, not with what you had at the moment of the crash. If it only lost what that match had paid you, plus the loadout you were carrying, that is the rule working as designed. If it fell below your starting balance, keep reading: that is the bug.

  2. 02 Check you are on the same account

    Confirmed

Team17 support's first answer to one 300K-to-11K report: signing in with a different Steam account or profile shows that account's balance, and cash cannot be moved between accounts. Make sure you launched from the account that owns your progress.

  3. 03 Verify game files

    Confirmed

Steam library, right-click WARDOGS, Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files. It is the step Team17 support asks for first on every cash report, so do it before you report.

  4. 04 Report it on Steam with before-and-after proof

    Confirmed

Post in the Report a Problem board on the WARDOGS Steam hub with your balance before and after, a screenshot or clip if you have one, roughly when it happened and which server. Team17 has said it is collecting these reports for the developers. It has not said lost cash will be restored.

  5. 05 Until it is fixed, don't carry your whole balance into a crash-prone session

    Reported

If your game has been crashing or disconnecting, buy cheaper kits until it is stable. The cash in the bank is not the risk; the loadout you die with and the match earnings you have not banked are.

Losing a pile of cash to a crash feels like one problem. It is two, and they have different answers.

What you lose by design

WARDOGS is built around losing things. When you die, the loadout you bought is gone. And Team17 support has spelled out what happens when a match ends early for you: "You will lose money if you die or leave games mid-way", and "incomplete matches will not award any cash during the match." A crash, a disconnect or a server kick counts as leaving. So if you were 20 minutes into a good match in a 20,000-dollar kit and the game dropped you, the kit and that match's earnings are gone, and support treats that as the rules working.

That is harsh when the crash was not your fault, and players have said so loudly, especially after the North American network disruption on 24 September, when one player on Steam put their losses from a single evening of disconnects at almost 200,000. But nothing Bulkhead has published says those losses will be refunded. How cash works in WARDOGS →

What is a bug

The line Team17 draws is this: "If you're losing more than what you should, or losing money when simply logging off and back in, do let us know as that would be an issue." Players are reporting exactly that. A 300,000 balance that became 11,000 overnight. A balance that snapped down to the price of the kit being bought. Money and progression missing inside a server while the main menu still showed it. Our own contact inbox has had four more this week alone, from balances of 230,000 and 280,000 down to a fraction after a crash.

On 22 and 23 September Team17 support said it had "received reports of this happening from several players" and passed them to the developers. Update 0.1.2 on 30 September does not list a fix for it.

Could it be an exploit reset?

Probably not, but it is worth knowing. Update 0.1.2 says players caught abusing cash and XP exploits, or trading for real money, "had their cash and progression reset." That reset takes levels as well as cash and comes with a ban risk, so a balance drop with your level untouched is not it. If you think you were reset by mistake, what gets you banned covers the rules.

If the crashes are what keeps costing you, fix those first: crashes in a match, kicked from a match and sent back to the main screen each have their own page.
